HAND RIVETER

A hand riveter, also sometimes called a rivet gun, is a tool used to set blind rivets. Blind rivets are a type of fastener that can be installed from one side of the workpiece. This makes them ideal for situations where you can’t access the back of the material you’re working with.

Here are some of the parts of a hand riveter:

• Handles: The handles provide leverage for squeezing the riveter’s jaws together.
• Jaws: The jaws grip the mandrel of the rivet and pull it into the rivet body, causing the rivet to expand and form a permanent joint.
• Die sets: These are interchangeable pieces that fit into the jaws of the riveter and determine the size of rivet that can be used.
• Mandrel collection chamber: This is a compartment that stores the broken-off mandrels of the rivets.

Here’s how to use a hand riveter:

1. Drill a hole in the workpiece that is the same size as the diameter of the rivet shank.
2. Insert the rivet through the hole from the front side of the workpiece.
3. Place the appropriate die set in the jaws of the riveter.
4. Insert the mandrel of the rivet into the nosepiece of the riveter.
5. Squeeze the handles of the riveter together until the rivet shank is pulled into the body of the rivet, expanding it and forming a permanent joint.
6. The mandrel will shear off at a predetermined point, and the broken-off piece will fall into the mandrel collection chamber.
