STAPLES

Staples are thin metal fasteners with two pointed ends that are used to hold papers together. They come in various sizes and are typically made from steel or copper.

There are two main types of staples:

• Standard staples: These are the most common type of staple and are used for general purpose stapling. They come in a variety of sizes, with the most common sizes being 26/6 and 24/6. The first number refers to the gauge (thickness) of the wire, and the second number refers to the leg length of the staple in thirty-secondths of an inch. For example, a 26/6 staple is 0.072 inches thick and has a leg length of 3/8 inches.
• Jumbo staples: These are larger and sturdier than standard staples and are used for heavier duty stapling tasks, such as stapling together multiple sheets of paper or thick cardboard.

Staples can be used with a stapler, which is a tool that drives the staples into the paper. Staplers come in a variety of sizes and styles, from small handheld staplers to large desk staplers.
